HSK 2 grammar guide

Start with these 6 high-utility patterns and use each one in listening, reading and your own sentences.

Pattern 1

了 for completed events

verb + 了 + object

Verb-final 了 can present an event as completed in context.

我买了两本书。

Wǒ mǎi le liǎng běn shū.

I bought two books.

她昨天看了一个电影。

Tā zuótiān kàn le yí ge diànyǐng.

Quick practice

  1. Write a new sentence following verb + 了 + object.
  2. Rewrite the common mistake above, then compare your structure with the two model sentences.
